Clean and Green Schools Environment Project Competition 2012 - Commendation Award
This year, Green Club sent five pupils to participate in the annual Environment Project Competition 2012. The team consisted of Kevin Lim 5J, Annette Lai 5J, Patricia Covarrubias 4H, Ruth Chee 4H and Nur Anisah 3H. In an effort to green the minds of peers and promote environmental awareness, members embarked on a project to create an environmental storybook, which can be read in the classroom and used as a teaching and learning resource. This storybook features our Green mascots unique to NVPS and it is based on Primary 3 Science theme 'Diversity', with an incorporation of environmental messages. Through reading, several Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies can be taught as pupils catch and learn values such as respecting, taking responsibility and care of living things and the environment, appreciating nature, and developing civic-mindedness. This project provided an opportunity for pupils to contribute to the school's Science curriculum, with an infusion of creativity and entrepreneurship as they take pride in authoring their own book.
Our warmest congratulations to the team as they emerged as one of the nine winners in the Primary category and won the Commendation Award! Well Done team! The pupils received their award at the Clean and Green Schools Carnival on 7th November. The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Ms Grace Fu, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources & Second Minister for Foreign Affairs. She visited our booth and complimented the pupils on their work. Mr Kwong Kok Chan, General Manager in Environment Health & Safety at Senoko Energy Pte Ltd, our corporate partner, also visited the booth and encouraged the team. A pleasant surprise for the pupils as they got a chance to meet and chat with ex-National footballer, Mr Lim Tong Hai, who was impressed with their project and the booth display.
